Feed The Fire The goal with this project was to focus on atmosphere, effects, and polish. This was my first point-and-click game and the gameplay was kept intentionally minimal. I took this as an opportunity to learn more about color grading, basic shaders and fx, particle effects, and adaptive audio techniques. I had the basic idea years ago for another class. The system generates the keys, combines them randomly, and gives the result as the prompt. The player essentially has to work backwards to figure out how the answer got there. We were given a list to chose from, but I chose to instead pick my own, an old favorite, Rampage. It's a game about smashing buildings as giant monsters, what could be cooler than that. In the original, the monsters grabbed and ate the humans, but with that being infeasible, I changed them into projectiles. This completely shifted the dynamics of gameplay. I recorded most sounds with family using foley. The goal was to create a clone of Sim City. I assumed the role of programmer and helped with some of the initial art concepts. Some liberties had to be taken with the Sim City formula to accommodate the change in era. Of course it's never by choice, usually hours before the deadline, but I haven't failed yet. Not only to document, but as a way for me to think through problems. Development, specifically where code is involved, is rarely a straight line. There are struggles and solutions that all eventually get smoothed out in the years to come, but I like having a place where those moments are immortalized. I like seeing the diary gradually become more disorganized and unhinged over time, as more 1:00 am rants fill in.
