An arcade-styled game about terrorizing a city as a giant robot and fighting the military
My pixel art skills weren't so skilled back then so I changed the organic monster designs to that of the boxy classic retro robot style. With this scale established, building and person designs followed similar paths.
This project's assignment was to make a clone game of an existing arcade game. We were given a list to chose from, but I chose to instead pick my own, an old favorite, Rampage. It's a game about smashing buildings as giant monsters, what could be cooler than that. But with this project, some changes had to be made.
The main twist I added to the game was the ability to throw enemies. In the original, the monsters grabbed and ate the humans, but with that being infeasible, I changed them into projectiles. This completely shifted the dynamics of gameplay. The player could now multitask, using the enemies of one building to soften up the next.
Trick-shots became especially fun to pull off and I made sure to reward them accordingly. Overall the game is one of my most replayable, and I revisit it often to see just how far I can get.
